Everton are unbeaten in 2006! Four league wins in a row. The most recent to bite the dust was Arsenal – a frequent source of torment. By all accounts Everton are back to their fighting best. Arsène Wenger doesn’t really think it’s football, but there you have it.
On another sporting note, there is Swiss basketball. I never had the height to play basketball, and it’s hardly one of the big sports in NI anyway, but I’ve enjoyed watching it here over the last few years. Interest helped along as we had Eric Channing at church for two years while he played for a couple of local teams including reaching the final of the Swiss Chamionship play off last season.
This year is fairly grim for the local Nyon team, currently bringing up the rear in the league. The funny thing about basketball is its ability to deliver 10 minutes of compelling drama after 30 or 35 minutes of drivel. Such was the case on Saturday with a poor game ending by going to extra time and the winning basket being scored within milliseconds of the buzzer.
