Sunday at Portstewart Baptist

Sunday saw the end of one sermon series and the beginning of another. In the evening we completed our look at the Ten Commandments, considering the sin that has no immediate victim – coveting. The fact that coveting is named alongside murder, adultery and false witness, even though you can indulge in coveting without anyone else necessarily being aware of it, is a reminder that God is concerned about the sin in our hearts. The message looked at the related issues of envy and greed.

Earlier in the day we started a new series on worship. It’s a frequently used word, but how often is it properly understood, and how often do our discussions of it start in the wrong place? I will be spending five weeks on it and on Sunday tried to look at the main ideas associated with worship in the Bible – homage, reverential awe and service. Before asking questions about the style of corporate worship expressions, we need to start by asking about our vision of God and who our lives are really lived for.
